The GP2 season shifts back into gear this weekend as the season rolls into Spain for the European leg of the season at the Circuit de Catalunya.
Once again Tonbridge’s Adrian Quaife-Hobbs will be back on track as will Jolyon Palmer whose dad owns Brands Hatch.
Palmer is currently sixth in the drivers’ standings with Quaife-Hobbs in fourteenth place on seven points, and he is currently the third best ranked rookie driver on the grid.
They will be joined by another Brit on the grid this weekend as Jon Lancaster joins Hilmer Motorsport for round three of the 2013 season.
Both Palmer and Quaife-Hobbs will be looking to improve on their solid showings in the second round of the season in Bahrain.
They face a challenge to be the first Brit on the top step of the podium as there has not been once since 2006.
After two rounds of the season Stefano Colleti leads the championship from Fabio Leimar by ten points, and these are the two drivers likely to be fighting at the front end of the grid for the victory in Spain.
Brit Sam Bird netted his first victory by 0.08 seconds in Bahrain in the sprint race and he will be looking to try and challenge for the victory this weekend.
Once again the track is likely to be hard wearing on tyres and Pirelli the tyre provider to the GP2 series have nominated the hard tyre, as they did in the opening two rounds of the season.
Free Practice and Qualifying will take place today with race one getting underway on Saturday which will be the 37 lap feature race. Then on Sunday the 23 lap sprint race will take place before the Formula One race takes to the track at the Circuit de Catalunya. Sky will be showing all the GP2 sessions and races live on their F1 channel.
