2022 Emerging Player of the Year, Hamid Qadri, will remain at Kent Cricket until at least the end of the 2024 season.
The 22-year-old off-spinner joined Kent ahead of the 2020 season and has so far made 28 appearances for Kent, taking 34 wickets.
Qadri was Kent Spitfires’ top wicket taker on the way to ending 48 years of hurt by winning the One-Day Cup in 2022 – his 15 wickets included a return of 4-26 against Northamptonshire Steelbacks, dismissing three of the top four, which helped the Spitfires to their second win of the tournament and the beginning of a run to the Final at Trent Bridge, with Qadri taking the wicket of Lancashire top-scorer Keaton Jennings in the Final.
In first-class cricket, the right-hander’s batting average reached 48.40 as he surpassed his previous best scores with the bat twice: 77 against Lancashire in April followed by 87 against Somerset in the final match of the 2022 season.
After his performances this past season, Qadri was named Men’s Emerging Player of the Year at the 2022 Spitfire Kent Cricket Awards.
On extending his Kent contract, Qadri said: “I had a great year personally in 2022 and to win my first trophy was really special.
“Kent is the best place for me to be right now to continue my development as a player – I’ve benefitted a lot from working with the likes of Min Patel and James Tredwell, two guys that made their names as spinners at Kent – and I’m looking forward to the start of the season.”
Kent’s Director of Cricket, Paul Downton, said: “Hamid has started to deliver on the potential he showed when he first joined the Club. He is back to enjoying his bowling again and spinning the ball hard.”
“This has given him a lot more confidence and makes him a dangerous opponent. With his batting also improving at a rapid rate , Hamid made significant progress in 2022.”
“He is still very young as a spinner but with his natural, self-taught talent and his fierce determination, Hamid is one of a number of exciting young players at Kent who will hopefully all grow together.’
