The final round of the MCE British Superbike Championship proved to be fairly profitable for Aylesford’s Howie Mainwaring-Smart.
Riding for the last time for Quattro Plant Kawasaki, Howie finished the season with three points paying finishes.
It was a welcome return to form for Mainwaring-Smart at his home track and served to underline the talents that he has, and hopefully earn him a ride for the 2016 season.
After qualifying for the opening race in 13th place, he took 14th to add two more points to his tally and he improved to 13th in Sunday’s first 20-lap encounter.
However, he saved the best until last and took tenth place in the final race of 2015 and ensure he scored points in the final three races of the season. He also recorded the fastest lap of the race and was only five seconds adrift of the race win as he ended the year in 16th place overall.
Speaking after the season, came to an end, Howie said: “It’s been a rollercoaster season for me with good bits, okay bits and bad bits so it’s nice to have ended on a high. I struggled a bit to begin with this weekend with front end chatter but we made a few small changes to the bike that made a massive difference and I was able to get quicker as the weekend wore on.
“To take a top ten finish and the fastest lap of the race in the final race of the year is a nice way for 2015 to end so thank you to the whole team for all their hard work.”
