Prestedge: ‘It’s nice to get back to playing League games’

Margate return to Isthmian Premier League action this weekend after a fine FA Cup win at Folkestone on Tuesday night with boss Reece Prestedge calling for his side to extend their four-game unbeaten run to bring home important points.

“Of course, it’s nice to get back to playing League games as that’s where we get judged,” Prestedge admitted to KSN this week.

“We go into the weekend four unbeaten with three wins and a raw, so we’ll travel full of confidence.”

Tuesday was our best performance of the season,” the Gate boss told us. “That’s credit to the boys! We have had some very good patches in games but not complete performances over ninety minutes, but we did that Tuesday.”

“The first game was a really good Cup game with both teams going at it. Both teams had spells and it was a proper Cup tie, but on Tuesday we were just hungrier. Folkestone is a very tough place to go as it showed when they beat us in the League a few weeks ago, they are a good side and a very recognised Club in this League and you have got to be on it if you are going to get anything against them.”

“If we actually start of the front foot in games, we can give anyone a game because I thought we were outstanding.”

Margate now travel to face Chesham United in the next round, just two more from the First-Round proper, but Prestedge bemoaned the draw!

“I don’t think we ever get a nice draw to be honest,” he said.

“That’s no disrespect to the lower teams. You would like at least one out of the three to be nice draw but when you put that draw in the hat with just three home games in the League, it is a bit tough, but we have to go out and beat what’s in front of us to progress.”

“Just as in the last round we’re playing a side we’ve only just played in the League and that’ll mean that we would have faced three teams from our League in the Cup as well.”

Margate will travel to Canvey with a clean bill of health with the boss telling us, “Everyone’s fit and ready to go. We assessed things at training as it will obviously be a completely different game from Folkestone. We have to go away to teams like Canvey and get results.”
