Chris Powell has rounded off a great season for Charlton by picking up the prestigious LMA Manager of the Year award.
The League Manager’s Association have named their divisional winners in the Football League, having named Alan Pardew as their Premier League Manager Of The Season last week.
Brian McDermott picked up the Championship award following Reading’s amazing late surge that carried them to the title.
Former Addick, Paolo Di Canio, landed the League Two trophy after leading Swindon to the title and a quick return to League One.
It was little more than a formality that Powell would take the League One crown following Charlton’s outstanding season. Various records were broken along the way and Powell’s team equalled Fulham’s record points tally for the division.
It was a remarkable achievement by Powell in his first full season and augers well for Charlton’s future. The manager – currently in Las Vegas with the squad and his staff – will probably have discussed transfer targets with Tony Jiminez on the flight across the Atlantic.
The Addicks policy of recruiting early served them well last season and the club will be keen to land their targets as early as possible again.
