The Sunday People are reporting that Chris Powell is bracing himself for the loss of more influential players, following the decision not to take up the option on Danny Haynes’ contract.
In itself, that is not a surprise, it is widely expected that players such as Dale Stephens and Danny Hollands will move on during the summer, while a substantial bid would secure Chris Solly’s services.
The short piece suggests that financial restrictions may cause the manager to consider his future and quotes a source close to Powell as saying:
“He (Powell) will be frustrated if he isn’t given the backing to progress the club.”
Whilst it is unlikely that Powell would leave the Addicks, it does highlight that clubs are beginning to gear up for the impending Financial Fair Play regulations.
It will be interesting to see what effect the measures will have on the loan market, clubs may be more inclined to blood their own youngsters rather than bring in expensive loan signings.
It is possible, when FFP regulations are fully implemented, that the loan system regulations may be revised.
