It has now become an annual event that every November, a campaign called Movember takes place.
Participants grow moustaches during the month to make money and raise awareness for men’s health issues.
Welling United have a player playing a part in it. George Porter, who lives in the borough, is a member of the Bexley Movember team.
During the summer, Wings’ manager Loui Fazakerley became aware that Porter was unattached and met him for coffee. “He then asked me to come down and train and see if I enjoyed it. I was impressed with the management team straight away and I signed after the Maidstone game.”
Porter’s endless energy and never-say-die attitude have made him popular with Welling supporters and team-mates alike.
On his donation page he states his motivation ‘To help raise as much awareness as I can for this cause with a few laughs and giggles on the way from as many Home/Away supporters, Family and Friends as I go through the whole of November with a Tash.’
Having got half way to his target, he has stated that he will dye his moustache red so it will be interesting to see what he will do when he reaches, and hopefully raises it.
His page can be found on https://uk.movember.com/mospace/13125749 and all donations for the very worthwhile cause would be gratefully received.
