Kent’s Jake Hill took points in all three BTCC races at Silverstone, having yet-again qualified in the top-ten, also moving up in both the overall Championship and the Independent Driver’s Series.
Hill qualified P10 and at the start of the first of the three 22 lap races lost out to as fast-starting Jackson and Josh Cook, ending the lap in P12.
In a brave move around the outside at Luffield at the end of lap one, Hill passed Cook’s Honda, and then set-off after Matt Neal, catching him and Chilton a couple of laps later.
As Chilton locked up and ran wide, Neal got sideways allowing the 26 year-old from Kent to move up to P9.
The BRDC ‘Superstar’ then made a superb re-start after a Safety Car to remove Creese’s car, and swept around the Ford Focus of Jackson at Brooklands and up to P8.
Hill then withstood huge pressure from Matt Neal to the flag – having also gained a place when Oliphant dropped out – and crossed the line in a hard-fought P7.
“The car was fantastic. We are struggling with some straight line pace, and this is a track that doesn’t really suit us, so to have made the progress we did and hold off Matt was mega.
Starting P7 Hill immediately gained a place as Butcher was pushed wide by Sutton, who also lost time, Hill then passing Sutton the following lap, now up to P5.
Now with 24kgs of success ballast on board, Hill was gradually caught by Jelley’s BMW, and on lap 9 a late lunge from the Team Parker driver at Copse saw contact, with Jelley spinning, and Hill picking up damaged suspension and losing time.
Fighting hard to keep the squabbling pack of Neal, Cook and Moffat behind, the damage was costing time and ultimately Hill lost out, now dropping to P8, but judge holding Jackson behind.
Late on a puncture for leader Ingram gave Hill another place, and again under pressure came home to another P7 finish.
“Such a shame Stephen hit me! The car was awesome through left-handers but horrible through right-handers after that! I was pleased to hold off Ollie (Jackson) and take some more points.
In the reverse-grid draw Hill would start P3, behind Oliphant and Jackson, and at the start held position and was battling hard with Josh Cook’s Honda.
However a couple of laps later the race was stopped after an enormous accident for Rory Butcher, his Ford Focus clattering into the barrier and rolling to a halt after contact with Neal.
Fortunately the Scotsman walked away, and after some time repairing the barriers, the race re-started for a 12 lap blast.
Immediately Hill lost out to Cook at the start, and as the laps unfolded struggled to maintain pace, dropping out of the points, but in a dogged drive fought back to P15, holding off Goff to score the final championship point.
“We decided to change the diff and frustratingly it caused me all sorts of problems with traction and balance. We think their may have been an issue, but I simply couldn’t maintain the pace of my earlier races.
“Taking points in all-three races and qualifying in the top-ten again was great though. So proud of my crew, as always they worked so hard and I have now moved up to P10 overall and P6 in the Independant’s class, so some real positives there.
