Ryan Dixon was back on track and back in the points for the start of the Dickies British Supersport season at Silverstone last weekend.
Dixon was delighted to be out on track for the first round and to be as competitive as at one point it looked as though it might be a bit touch and go.
Speaking to Kent Sports News, Ryan said: “I was really pleased, to begin with, I thought it might be a bit tricky making round one but with a couple of weeks to go, I knew that the main preparations were done and I’d be there. It was a lot of hard work but it’s worthwhile when you are ready to rock at round one.”
Qualifying didn’t quite go to plan for Dixon and he ended up much further down the grid than he wanted, as he explains.
He added: “24th is not where I wanted to be on the grid and was a little bit disappointing but when I think about it and take into account I did no testing and hadn’t even sat on a bike since the sprint race back at Brands Hatch in October and then I was forced to sit out most of Friday practice at Silverstone, due to an electrical gremlin, then it sort of puts into perspective that I shouldn’t expect too much.
“Especially at Round one, with very little budget and doing 99% of the preparation before and at the meeting myself, to qualify 24th in the British Championship isn’t really anything to frown upon.”
The racing however was a different story and showed just how competitive Dixon can be as he finished in the points in race one and was destined for the same before a mechanical issue forced his retirement.
“I was really pleased to grab some points in race one, I wasn’t sure what to expect and to be honest, felt quite comfortable and was quietly confident for the main race on Sunday.
“Race two I was on for points, I’d just caught and passed the rider in front of me on a GP2 bike and had a good gap back to the next Supersport bike. I’d backed off ever so slightly to make sure I didn’t make any silly mistakes and brought it home but unfortunately it wasn’t to be!
“I am not sure what the problem is just yet, currently in the process of trying to organise for my spare engine to be put together in time for Round 2 at Oulton Park next weekend although it’s going to be touch and go.”
