It was a positive weekend for Kent’s teams and drivers in the latest installment of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
The high speed Thruxton race circuit in Hampshire played host to an extremely entertaining day of racing right from the BTCC to the support series.
Mike Bushell went into the weekend looking to get back into a rhythm following a tough weekend in the second round of the season.
However, it was a rough weekend for the Tunbridge Wells based racer, as his challenge came to an end in qualifying.
As he exited the pits to head out onto another qualifying attempt, he didn’t seem Simon Belcher in his blind spot and the pair collided. Mike was taken to hospital with a suspected broken femur. He was later released from hospital with sever ligament damage and was trackside for the races. Everyone at KSN wishes him all the best for a speedy recovery.
Meanwhile Kieran Gallagher and Team Hard Racing picked up their first championship point of the season at Thruxton.
In race one Kieran did well to keep hold of a massive moment, which saw him spinning all over the track and lucky not to collect any other cars as he did so. This incident would eventually see him finish two laps down.
The second race of the weekend would prove to be the best result for Kieran and their return to the championship this season. He would slice and dice his way through with some excellent race craft to finish in the final point paying position.
In the final race of the weekend, Kieran did really go out there and hope to score further points with a 15th place grid position. He would go on to finish just three places outside the points in 18th, this however was a race weekend that both team and driver can be proud of.
Andy Wilmot went into the weekend with a different target, and that was to get out there go racing and finish all three races.
The Dartford race ace in his rookie season would achieve that aim, with three finishes and valuable track time and reliability during the races for the first time this season.
His results improved steadily throughout the day, having started from the pitlane in race one he went on to finish in 22nd place and a lap down. Race two would also see Andy finish a lap down but in 21st position.
The best race of the day for him was the final race of the day as he finished in 20th place and on the same lap as the lead racers. These were definitely positive steps for Andy as the season moves on to Oulton Park in just under a months’ time.
