Podiums for Ward at home round
Podiums for Ward at home round

Canterbury’s Tom Ward rounded off his home round of the Pirelli National Superstock championship with a win and a podium.

In what was expected to be his last round with the team before returning to focus on his Endurance racing, the team have asked him to continue for the remainder of the 2024 season.

Ward planted it firmly on the podium last weekend in glorious fashion at Brands Hatch. After battling hard with young gun Joe Talbot, who is now at the top of the leaderboard it was evident that more than one rider benefited from the miss fortune of Davey Todd toppling off early on in race one.

Ward who now spends most of his time at the World Endurance championship with one of two teams that represent England competing for world domination on two wheels, came back to the Bennetts British Superbike Championship after a two year break to fill in for team mate Sam Cox, both riding for Armada Marine Cables Racing.

He shared the Saturday race podium with Luke Mossey, and new championship leader, Joe Talbot to lift the trophy high and let the champagne flow, the first time Ward has been on the top step of the podium since 2016.

Ward has been asked to continue with the team for the rest of the season. Could we see the multiple Lord of Lydden winner hit the top step in the championship by the end of the year?

Sunday’s race 2 was slightly tougher for the 28 year old but was well fought out remaining in second place behind lead man Luke Mossey who set a very quick pace on the 2.4 mile track. Ward now moves up to 3rd in the championship with 103 points, just one point in front of David Allingham.

Speaking after a fantastic weekend, Tom said “Its good to be back in the British Superbike Championship, and with a great team as well. It’s good to have Sam Cox as a team mate.

“The bike has been great and the set up by the team on the bike has also been epic. I look forward to seeing what we can do with the rest of the season. It’s so good to be 3rd in the championship currently, all the hard work is paying off.”
