Podium for Ward at Brands Hatch
Podium for Ward at Brands Hatch

Tom Ward rounded off his unexpected British Superbike Championship season with a podium at Brands Hatch last weekend.

For Ward it was a season that shouldn’t have seen him racing in the Pirelli National Superstock Championship, let alone lining up on the BSB grid. He was back on the Superstock grid for the final round at his home circuit last weekend, finishing sixth in race one and third in race two. He brings us up-to-date with his race weekend.

What started off as a tough weekend due to illness and bike problems it was great to bounce back and finish with a third, a shame I didn’t get to have a good battle with the guys who came off but it definitely made it easier once I had caught the front group! Pleased to have the pace for more but happy to still be on the box. Great results for Sam Cox Racing and Tom Oliver also on the Armada Marine Cables Hondas!

It’s been a crazy year with no intention to ride in BSB at all at the beginning of the year to then step in for Sam whilst he was injured. I’ve had the most fun I’ve ever had riding this year and as a bi product I’ve achieved some of my best results and showed we have potential to fight for a championship, this is all down to the great people around me… I’ve always doubted my ability in the past but this year I really started to believe in myself again. With the right package and mind-set I truly believe it’s only yourself that is stopping you from achieving your goals and dreams!

I can’t thank Sam Cox and the Armada team enough for giving me this opportunity and all the people that have supported, especially my fiancé Steph Twyman she has been by my side through the thick and thin over the years but always supported me no matter what.

There’s so many people behind the scenes that deserve a huge thank you, from Charles Cordier for his relentless hours working on the bike, Tom Oliver Motorcycles looking after the bikes, all of my sponsors, the huge support from my family, friends and friends, The list is too long, thank you for everything.

I’m not sure what the future holds with racing for next season but regardless I am forever grateful that I am still able to pursue my passion for riding motorbikes!

This weekend I’ll be racing down at Lydden Hill Race Circuit for the Lord of Lydden, so it’ll be great to finish the season at my local track! Hope to see some of you down there.
