Invicta Dynamos Head Coach, Kevin Parrish, insists his side should be good enough for a play-off place at the very least this season.
The Dynamos have suffered an up and down season with last weekend’s 10-3 win at Solent & Gosport followed up by a 3-2 home defeat to league leaders Chelmsford Chieftains on Sunday night.
Those two results sum up the Dynamos season as they have struggled to put a string of results together leaving the management frustrated, but at least this weekend the team showed glimpses of what has made them one of the better sides in the National Ice Hockey League South.
The defeat on Sunday leaves the Dynamos sixth in the table, but they have two games in hand of fourth placed Cardiff NIHL Devils who are just three points ahead.
Having seen his side put in two battling performances over the weekend, Parrish told KSN how he was frustrated his side had lost 3-2 to the Chieftains having lead 2-0, but couldn’t criticise his players too much as they had put in a good shift:
“Even though it was a loss, we have to give credit to our guys. We were solid for most of the game, but we didn’t pick up their man on the first goal and the third goal was a screamer.”
“We have to take the positives as we didn’t get hammered by a very good Chelmsford team. We are not too far away from beating these top teams and people in the play-off places should be fearing us.”
“The effort, the hunger and the willingness was there from the players and in an end to end game, David Wride blocked a lot of shots.”
With twelve league fixtures left to play, the Dynamos have a great chance to make something of this season and five wins out of five in the cup have seen them challenging for silverware.
Back to back away games against the Wightlink Raiders and Milton Keynes Thunder are to come this weekend and Parrish believes a four point weekend in the league is a must if they are to keep their play-off aspirations alive:
“I think winning the league is probably out of our hands now, but we can make it into the top four. We’re not that far away from being a good side and maybe we just need to look at adjusting our lines slightly.”
“Four points is what is needed and we know it’s going to be tough. Having played Gosport we will be ready to go to Wightlink on a smaller rink.”
“Any team in this league is beatable and if we can get the four points this weekend we will get the confidence to know we can go anywhere and win games.”
The Dynamos are next in action back at home at the Silver Blades Ice Bowl in Gillingham on Sunday 10th February when they take on Bracknell Hornets. Face off is 5:15pm and tickets are available through www.invictadynamos.com
