Looking for a quick response to their heavy defeat on Saturday, Phoenix Sports entertain high flying East Grinstead Town.
Against Three Bridges at the weekend, they put in a performance that they will want to forget as quickly as possible. They went behind in the first minute and they went further in arrears just before the break.
If four more unanswered second half goals weren’t tough enough for them, they finished with nine men when captain Danny Young and Zak Byron were shown red cards in the final minutes.
That was their fourth consecutive defeat following a four-nil win at Hythe Town and they are yet to claim their first point or score their first goal after three games at home this season.
Visitors East Grinstead dropped their first points of the season when held to a two all draw at home to Whitstable Town on Saturday. They may consider that as a point won rather than two lost as they were indebted to an injury time equaliser by substitute Seidou Sawogo.
Striker Louie Theophanous has been on good form for the third placed Wasps. In eight league and cup games, he has already found the net nine times although he hasn’t scored in the last two.
The two teams have already met once this season when Phoenix visited East Grinstead in the F.A Cup. The hosts were cruising when three-nil up at half time through a brace by Theophanous and a third by Jerry Amoo. Jeff Duah-Kessie pulled one back with ten minutes remaining but substitute James Dyer’s goal was too late to change the outcome.
Victory for the visitors could take them to second in the league however Phoenix will be equally keen to to claim the points to start pushing them up the table.
