On Saturday Phoenix Sports host Lancing at Mayplace Road in a massive Isthmian League South East Division relegation battle.
There are just three points separating the bottom three with Phoenix above Whitstable Town on goal difference and then Lancing three points ahead but with an inferior goal difference. Whitehawk are another two points above them and are not safe. The bottom two face automatic relegation while the team immediately above will play a one-off play-off against a team finishing second from one of the leagues from the level below.
Last Saturday, the Sports lost a tight match one-nil at East Grinstead Town which allowed the hosts to ease five points clear of Phoenix with three games to play. That followed a good win for the Sports at Three Bridges. They have only lost twice in the last six matches and their current form is mid table.
Visitors Lancing lost two-one at home to second placed Ashford United last Saturday after they had picked up two one all draws.
When the two teams met at Culver Road on 3rd January, second half goals by Malaki Toussaint and Lee Bird ensured victory for the Sports. Another such result for Steve O’Boyle’s side on Saturday would give them a real chance of escaping the drop.
