Phoenix Sports entertain Glebe in a midweek Southern Counties East Football League fixture.
Steve O’Boyle’s side started with a three-one victory at Erith Town although the Sports’ manager admitted afterwards that it was a bit of a smash and grab. They went ahead in just the fifth minute through Ryan Hayes, but Charlie Clover levelled on the stroke of half time.
After the Dockers were reduced to ten men, Hayes was involved in the two late goals scored by Alfie Evans and Luke Leppard. On Saturday, they visited Welling Town and came away with a point.
O’Boyle will be hoping to build on their unbeaten start but knows that it will be a tough ask against one of the favourites for the league title.
Glebe started their campaign at another of the fancied teams for the championship, Deal Town. The Foxes went ahead through a free kick scored by player-manager Luke Rooney just before the half time interval, but Deal came back with three goals through Alfie Foster, Connor Coyne, and Ben Chapman.
Rooney’s team claimed their first league win of the season on Saturday with a resounding four-one victory over Lordswood despite going behind four minutes before the break. James Dyer levelled in first half stoppage time and a brace by Jamie Philpot in the first four minutes of the second half sent Glebe on their way.
Dyer put the icing on the cake with his second, one minute before the end.
Between their two league games, both clubs played FA Cup matches and were successful. Phoenix won three-one at Oxhey Jets whilst Glebe edged a thriller to see off Holmesdale four-three.
Locals always have a bit of spice to them, so an exciting game is anticipated at the Mayplace Ground, kicking off at 7:45pm.
