Invicta Dynamos Player-Coach Anthony Leone has moved to bolster his defensive options ahead of Sunday’s home encounter with league leaders Streatham IHC by securing a return to NIHL hockey for 29 year old physical defenceman Billy Phillips.
Blue liner Billy Phillips is a former Romford junior who rose through the youth ranks before progressing into the senior side and moving on to have spells with the Slough Jets, Invicta Dynamos and Chelmsford Chieftains. An EPL Playoff Champion with Slough in 2009/10, an NIHL champion with the Raiders in 2011/12, a cup winner with the Mos in 2014/15 and a league winner with Chelmsford in 2015/16, Phillips has enjoyed and been a part of significant success in the game throughout his career.
Phillips last donned a Mos jersey in 2014/15 where he managed a remarkable 17 goals and 20 assists in 35 appearances from back on the blue line. Since then, he iced for the Chelmsford Chieftains in 2015/16 before stepping away from the game entirely. Now, after a significant time out of the sport, he returns looking to demonstrate his passion for hockey and gain positive headlines in a Dynamos jersey.
Phillips trained with the squad in recent days and goes straight into the line-up to face Streatham on Sunday. His signing provides the team with more defensive options following the loss of Jack Flynn and the flexible nature of Tommy Ralph’s contract given his off-ice commitments.
Billy Phillips’ career has not been without controversy but when focussed purely on hockey he has previously been one of the standout defenceman at this level of the game with a significant physical presence, valuable experience on the blue line and thumping slapshot that has seen him pick up numerous goals from distance. It is for this reason that he returns to the fold for 2021/22 and we look forward to seeing only the best of him during the campaign
