Peterborough v Charlton – Preview

Charlton target,Paul Smyth, has joined League One rivals, Accrington, on loan for the rest of the season.

The latest player to be linked with a move to The Valley is Bolton’s former Walsall attacking midfielder, Erhun Oztumer.

Sunderland are also thought to be interested in the player, who was once an Addicks trainee.

Charlton will be without Kyle Taylor – serving a three match ban – for the game at Peterborough.

Taylor’s striking partner, Karlan Grant, the subject of much transfer speculation this week, will take his place in the line-up though.

Bowyer stated at his press conference on Thursday, that there would be no change of shape, so Grant will not be the lone forward.

But his options are limited, and he hinted that Reeco Hackett-Fairchild would fill Taylor’s shoes at Peterborough.

Hackett-Fairchild is very inexperienced, and has failed to impress thus far. Bowyer also had another youngster, Wilberforce Ocran, on the bench against Accrington last week.

Alternatively, he could push one of his attacking midfielders further forward. It is also possible that Bowyer is playing mid games with Steve Evans and will opt for a different formation.

Elsewhere, the manager has no fresh injury concerns. The Addicks may line-up like this:

Phillips; Solly, Bauer, Sarr, Purrington; Bielik, Cullen, Pratley, ‎Fosu; Grant, Williams.

Subs: Maxwell, Dijksteel‎, Morgan, Lapslie, Reeves, Marshall, Hackett-Fairchild.

The referee will be David Webb of Lancashire.

Posh are six points behind Charlton, though they do have a game in hand on the south Londoners.

Despite the absence of Taylor, Bowyer will be hopeful that his team can extend the gap to nine points.
