The building work to create a number of zero carbon homes, coupled with the construction of the new away terrace, meant the Charlton players had to be dropped at the entrance to the car park and make their way by foot to the dressing rooms.
The class of 2014/15 seemed relaxed and happy, with Johnnie Jackson his usual affable self.
No trip to London Road is complete without having a few words with the always jovial Barry Fry. Fry was in fine form.
The new stand is due to be completed in October and much of the fencing around the car park will be removed, prior to Peterborough’s opening home fixture.
Bob Peeters sent his side out in a 4-4-2 formation, with Rhoys Wiggins pushed forward into midfield and Callum Harriott utilised as a striker.
Charlton dominated for long periods in the first half with Johann Gudmundsson impressing. The Icelandic international has an eye for the spectacular and was unlucky to be foiled by former Addicks custodian, Ben Alnwick.
Igor Vetokele has the knack of being in the right place at the right time but spurned his chances on this occasion.
Alnwick was given a terrific reception by both the Charlton fans, as he emerged for the second half, and his former colleagues.
Posh came more into it after the break, but the Addicks reargaurd stood firm. Stephen Henderson and Lawrie Wilson combined to thwart one Peterborough raid, and Ben Haim would have got a booking had this been a competitive game, after hauling back an attacker as he was about to break clear.
There was a late cameo from young Gomez, who slotted in at right-back this time. One run and shot belied Gomez’s tender years.
Neither side could make the decisive breakthrough and the game petered out to end goalless.
Charlton complete their warm up games at Portsmouth on Saturday, by which time Peeters’ squad may have been bolstered.
