Adrian Pennock was pleased with a point as Gillingham drew 1-1 with Millwall on Saturday.
Joe Quigley put The Gills in front at Priestfield only for Steve Morison to level for the play-off chasing Lions.
Having seen his side take a point, Pennock was pleased to have ended a run of four straight defeats against a decent Millwall side:
“I am happy with the point. We wanted three, but we were up against a very good side. I have to give credit to all the players, they put a good shift in today.”
“I also want to give credit to the crowd because they showed up and showed their support for the boys, but I also want them [both players and fans] to turn up against Bristol Rovers on Friday.”
“We have to play like that every week for the remainder of the season, we know that. We have showed that against the higher teams we can match them. There was some really strong performances today.”
“Since I have been here, it is the first time that we put them under constant pressure. We had five or six corners in the first half, maybe more than that. They were good corners and we put them under pressure.”
“We changed things throughout the game, and I was pleased overall.”
Pennock also paid tribute to goalkeeper Tomas Holy who kept his side in the game with a string of decent saves:
“He is a good ‘keeper. He is a young lad and will have a big future. He fully deserves all the credit.”
“He is still learning his trade, but he has very good tools. He will make mistakes, but it shows what sort of talent he has because he put that to one side today and played very well.”
Gillingham will now spend the rest of this week preparing for the visit of Bristol Rovers to Priestfield on Good Friday.
With Port Vale still having a game in hand on The Gills and just a point separating the two sides, a win would go a long way to calming a few nerves as Ady Pennock’s side sit just one place above the League One relegation zone.
