Gillingham have this evening unveiled the clubs new look coaching set-up with Ady Pennock, Steve Lovell and Jamie Day the three men charged with taking the club forward.
Pennock no stranger to the Gills fans having played for the club for eight years between 1996 and 2003 will take up the position of Head Coach. He is joined by Jamie Day who was the current manager at Welling United and worked with Pennock as his assistant at Forest Green Rovers, before their departure early this season, and arrives at the Gills as First Team Coach.
Steve Lovell needs no introduction to Gills fans as he was a fans favourite as a player, and was part of the caretaking four after the sacking of Peter Taylor and stepped up then as first team coach under Edinburgh before leaving this summer, and subsequently joining Bromley FC as assistant manager.
The trio have been handed the reigns at the Gills following the sacking of Justin Edinburgh yesterday, and will be in charge of first team affairs with immediate effect until the end of the current season.
Speaking about appointing the trio,Chairman Paul Scally was delighted to welcome the three new coaches to the MEMS Priestfield Stadium, he said: “I am convinced they will enhance the performances of the first-team squad going forward.”
“The current squad is the most expensive in the history of Gillingham Football Club, it has enormous potential and is capable of achieving great success over the remainder of the season and beyond.
“I fully appreciates this has been a difficult few days for supporters. However, based on the playing performance over the previous calendar year, that of 14 wins out of 48 league games, and only eight victories from 25 matches this season, I felt a change was necessary to ensure that the club achieves the best possible position it can after the final 21 fixtures of this campaign.”
The new coaching set-up will be unveiled to the press on Friday morning, before they then meet with the playing squad and take charge of their first training session following that meeting.
