Kent Sports News caught up with Forest Green Rovers Manager Adrian Pennock following their game against Welling United on Saturday.Adrian Pennock3

There seemed no doubt that he was enjoying his new post at the club and coming up against one of his old players, Jamie Day, who is now manager of Welling United, the club that gave him his first taste of football management. He also stated how much he was enjoying life in Gloucestershire.

Although his side had the better of the chances, Pennock wasn’t too disappointed with a draw, partly due to his relationship with the Wings’ boss with whom he was looking forward to a chat over a glass of wine or cup of tea.

He knew that Day would be a good manager “When I took over, he was the one player I was determined to sign for the following season as he had that bit about him. I know Barry Ashby very well. I played with him for seven years at Gillingham.”

“It’s hard to say who was my best Welling United signing.” He plucked current Gillingham club captain Danny Kedwell from Herne Bay in what was then the Kent League, and has followed his career ever since.

When asked whose results he looks for first it was none of the teams he has played for, or for whom he has worked, but the team he has always supported, Ipswich Town.

As for the game, he was happy with a point and was looking forward to spending time with Day. The Welling manager admitted “It was a little bit weird being with Ady on the side-lines but he is a top-class manager and they are good enough to get in the play-offs.”

Ashby added “We keep in touch anyway but (it’s) always nice to see the legend that is Pennock. He is a top lad and will do well there.”
