Rob Paul has been selected in the Europe team for next month’s Fightmaster Cup against the United States, which is being played at Paul’s “home” course of Walmer & Kingsdown GC.
The seven-handicapper, who lives in Granville Road, will be part of a 12-man European team for the Ryder-Cup-style competition which is contested every two years by golfers who have lost the use of one arm.
This will be the sixth staging of the competition since the inaugural event in 2008 and 36-year-old Paul, who was born with cerebal palsy, has played in all five previous matches as well as winning the one-armed golfers’ individual world championship two years ago.
Another Walmer & Kingsdown member, Neil Branston, will be vice-captain of the Europe team and he said: “Staging the Fightmaster Cup is a huge honour for this club and it will be a proud moment for Rob, our own former world champion, when he represents Europe on his home course.”
The match takes place at Walmer & Kingsdown from September 20-22 and the full Europe team will be: D Masters (England), S Griffin (Scotland), R Paul (England), D Waterhouse (England), D Schutsander (Sweden), K Dewhurst (England), M O’Grady (Ireland), T Adnams (England), P Takkunen (Finland), C Arthurs (Ireland), A Fagan (Ireland), D Bailey (England).
