Invicta Dynamos Head Coach Kevin Parrish is hoping his side break their recent poor run with two wins this coming weekend.
After winning two of their first three games of the new season, the Dynamos have struggled of late, losing three and drawing two of the next games including the 4-4 draw with the Romford Raiders on Sunday having led 4-1 at one stage.
Despite the recent poor run of results, Parrish is confident the side are beginning to play some good hockey and fans won’t have to wait too much longer to see the Dynamos back to winning ways:
“I’m happy with certain parts of our game and not happy with other parts. We haven’t on in five games which is hanging over our heads at the moment, but you can see we are progressing.”
“The guys aren’t letting it get to them too much and we’re moving on at each stage. We have a little chat at the end of each game, have a debrief and make sure the guys aren’t getting too down as you can see that on the ice.”
“Confidence is low, but there have been glimpses over the weekend where we may have lost to Bracknell, but we outshot them by three and I think it comes down to confidence as we’re not putting our chances away.”
“On Sunday we threw a three goal lead away and it’s down to penalties which are killing us. I looked at the gamesheet at the end of Sunday’s game and there were 32 minutes of penalties and that’s killing us for near enough two periods of a hockey game and that’s not good enough.”
“It has been a tough start to the season and it’s always going to be a tough start when you get eight or nine new guys in, but the guys are working hard in practice and the workrate is there. We just need to take the smiles from a Tuesday and Thursday in training into the weekend.”
Having failed to get a win under their belts for the past four weeks, it could begin to play on the minds of the players, but Parrish told KSN how he believed one win could be all that’s needed to propel the side into a fine run of form:
“I think the reason we are taking these penalties when we are is because we are over-compensating and trying to do too much. We were eight minutes away from victory and the adrenalin was pumping too much and I think we need to calm down.”
“Once we get one win, I think we’ll start rolling. It can’t be a case of when we get a win, it has to be this weekend, otherwise, more changes will need to be made.”
For Parrish, going five games without a win is proving to be one of the harder parts of his job, but he told KSN how he is keen to turn the Dynamos’ fortunes around:
“It’s been challenging, but I’m not going to turn around and walk away from it, never. I set out my systems, but at the moment we’re not sticking to my systems.”
“When we do stick to our systems, we play some really good hockey, when we don’t and when just one guy comes off that system, the whole line collapses.”
“We had an incident on Sunday when we set up a play and two guys didn’t realise we were setting up that play, or didn’t feel like it was right to set up that play at that time. They came into the locker room after and got the hairdryer treatment as they have got to have faith with me.”
“I think with eight or nine new guys coming in, they’ve got to have faith in what I’m doing. Sometimes what I do is a bit mad and a little bit off the cuff, but that’s what you have to do in this game and you have to think on your feet.”
“We played good hockey on Saturday and came away with a loss and played good hockey on Sunday and despite getting a draw it felt like a loss.”
The Dynamos are back in action once again on Saturday as the Streatham Redskins come to the Silver Blades Ice Bowl in Gillingham with Parrish promising fans his side will be stepping up a gear after some intensive training this week with the players starting practice at around 10:30pm and not finishing until midnight:
“I know they struggled at the start of the year and I know they made a lot of changes too, but they have got some wins going now and last weekend they went to Bracknell and beat them quite convincingly.”
“It’s going to be tough and both teams will be looking for a win in the league. It’s always been a good game with Streatham and over the years we have had some good battles with them.”
“Both sets of fans haven’t got much respect for each other and I hope both sets of players go out there with little respect for one another and it’s a hard, physical game.”
“We need to be straight at them, but we need to make sure we don’t lose our heads and put the puck in the back of the net.”
“We were probably a bit too aggressive against Cardiff and came away with a loss at home, so that’s where the guys have got to keep their heads and make sure we are smart.”
After Saturday’s league game against Streatham, the Dynamos head to Chelmsford Chieftains in the South East Trophy on Sunday evening, with their next league game not until November 4th against Wightlink Raiders and Parrish feels it is a little too long to go without playing a league fixture:
“It’s not ideal playing this game on Saturday and then going another month without another one. What’s not been helping us too is when we have only had one game per weekend as it is difficult to wait seven days to go again.”
“That’s the way the fixtures are though and it’s not an excuse. We can’t have any more excuses now and we have to win both games this weekend.”
“I keep hearing that we have got a great team on paper, but it’s no good on paper. Anyone can have the best team in the league on paper, but we’ve got to go out as five guys on the ice and do it.”
Face off at the Silver Blades Ice Bowl in Gillingham is 5:15pm on Saturday evening with more information available from www.invictadynamos.com
