Medway’s Dan Parker is hoping that he can fulfil two of his racing dreams in the coming months and years.
The racing driver in the short term wants to race in the Britcar 1000 at Silverstone in September and then next season he wants to be cutting it with the best in the British Touring Car Championships.
However, like all racing drivers he is looking for some sponsors to help him fulfil his lifetime dreams of being able to race in some of the best series in the UK.
We caught up with Dan to find out what it is that drives him to achieve these dreams even in the face of adversity.
He said: “It used to be a 24 hour race but that has been cut to six hour due to the costs involved with it. I am looking to get some extra funding in place to be able to do the last two or three rounds really which includes races at Donington and Brands Hatch.
“At the moment we are concentrating on raising funds for the Silverstone round as it is a blue chip event. If you perform well in this race it then gives you a brilliant chance of getting some more funding afterwards, there are all sorts of hospitality packages available for the racing.
“The six hour race is £5,500 but that is for everything the testing on the Thursday and Friday the free practise on the Saturday and the qualifying as well as the race on the Sunday following the warm-up.
“You do get good value for money and my management are working on trying to get the funding and get me back out there racing. We have sponsorship packages available and my website is being rebranded at the moment.”
People outside of racing might not realise that people do need to raise the funds to be able to do something they love week in week out as Dan explains.
He added: “People think that you are paid because you are a racing driver, however that isn’t the case and you have to be at the very top of the game to be paid for racing.
“It is a labour of love for everyone else, I do a bit of instructing as well and sometimes you never know who you are sitting next to taking around the track.
“You can pick up sponsors by treating them correctly and if they have contacts who they want to spend time on the track with me it can be taken from there really.”
Sponsorship starts from £500 for the weekend, which includes a Q&A with Dan, weekend passes to the Britcar event, hospitality with the team and of course being shown around the car and garage itself. You will have your logo on his crash helmet, overalls and gloves.
Dan is also looking to make a move to the BTCC for next year and holds two of Kent’s teams in high regard.
He said: “If we can’t attract the sponsors for the six hour race, then we will be looking to raise the budget for racing in British Touring Cars for next season.
“There will be more teams and more drivers that want to make the move from the Clio’s and Ginetta’s and if I can get the correct funding then we should be able to get onto the grid. It does cost a fair amount of money, but it is shown live on TV, it does race on the best tracks around the country and it has fantastic coverage on the net and twitter etc, it really is a great package.
“Motorbase and Team Hard have fantastic set-ups and if I was to secure the sponsorship to be on the grid, I would love to be able to race with one of them.”
