After his accident in race two at the Norisring at the start of the month, Gary Paffett is fully fit for the fifth round of the DTM season at the Moscow Raceway.
Following his big crash in the second race at the Norisring, Gary has escaped injury and has been given the all clear to race this weekend. His car, however, did not have the same fortune and has been given a new chassis for Moscow while his is repaired.
Before his crash at the Norisring, Gary was the only driver to score points in every race this season, totalling 55 points from eight races. The Fitbit-sponsored driver now occupies 7th in the Drivers’ Standings but is only 34 points behind championship leader, Mattias Ekstrom.
The Moscow Raceway, located 80 kilometres northwest of Moscow, hosts the fifth round of the DTM season and the fifth race weekend at the Russian track since it was added to the DTM schedule back in 2013. The 3.931 kilometres track played host to a dominating Mercedes performance in race one last year with a 1-2-3-4 finish in Saturday’s race; a race Gary started from pole and converted to a third-place finish.
Gary feels fortunate to be racing this weekend and after his pole position last year, he heads into the weekend confident of a good performance in Moscow.
“I’ve been really lucky to come out of the crash at Norisring without any serious injury. I feel good and strong, and I’m working as hard as ever to make sure I have a good result in Moscow. The guys have done an incredible job getting another chassis ready for me for Moscow, because mine is not in great shape and it will take a long time to repair. Obviously, it wasn’t the best weekend at Norisring, but we are really prepared for Moscow. I’m looking forward to what will hopefully be a good weekend. I like the track and had pole position there last year.”
