Brands Hatch has unveiled its full calendar for this season and it is set to be yet another bumper year for the Kent circuit.
There are a number of major events coming to Brands this season including the British Superbikes, British Touring Cars and the addition of the Blancpain GT Series and the annual fireworks spectacular following the Truck racing in November.
The MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship will visit three times this season, including the opening and closing rounds on 18-21 April and 17-19 October respectively, as Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne aims to avenge his 2013 title defeat. Once again he’ll face opposition from fellow triple champion Ryuichi Kiyonari, plus charismatic Aussie Josh Brookes and the returning former MotoGP star John Hopkins, who nearly took the championship three years ago. The summer event on 18-20 July also features a concert by former World Superbike champion James Toseland’s band on the Saturday night!
The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship is set for a vintage season, with an unprecedented seven former champions in the field. Andrew Jordan will attempt to defend his maiden title against Gordon Shedden, Matt Neal, Jason Plato and Colin Turkington, plus returning legends Alain Menu and Fabrizio Giovanardi. Brands Hatch hosts the opening and closing rounds again, on 29/30 March and 11/12 October, where the champion is expected to be crowned!
The Blancpain GT Series visits Brands Hatch for the first time on 17/18 May, marking the return of major international Sportscar racing for the first time since 1996. Alex Zanardi, who won two Gold Medals at the venue during the 2012 London Paralympic Games, will be competing, along with a field of prestigious supercars.
More GT action can be found in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, another series currently experiencing a golden era, which visits on 30/31 August. The meeting also features the British F3 International Series, a major step on the road to Formula 1.
Other aspiring F1 drivers will be starting their car racing careers in the MSV-run BRDC Formula 4 Championship, which enters its second year as the dominant single seater series in the UK for career drivers. The competitors will race on the Grand Prix circuit on two occasions, supporting both Blancpain and British GT meetings.
Meanwhile the spectacular British Truck Racing Championship returns on 12/13 April and 1/2 November for two family-themed events, the latter ending with a major firework display. There will be plenty of thrills at the Modified Live event too, in November, followed by the return of totalkitcar Live.
Several festivals will take place at Brands Hatch this year, with the Mini Festival returning on 11 May, whilst tribute is paid to iconic sportscar marques Lotus on 17 August and Porsche, the latter showcased in a major new event on 21 September. The American SpeedFest returns on 8 June, with exciting NASCAR action to look forward to as the venue is transformed into a scene from Daytona!
Historic racing fans can pencil in the Masters Historic Festival at Brands Hatch on 24/25 May, which will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Grand Prix to be held at the circuit. The venue’s popular Historic Superprix on 12/13 July will once again be headlined by the Super Touring Trophy for 80s and 90s BTCC cars.
