The relentless grind of the Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday schedule continues unabated for Charlton with a trip to Oxford on Tuesday evening.
If successful, Charlton will go to Huddersfield on Saturday for a fourth round tie. Injuries and suspensions have stretched Chris Powell’s squad to the limit and anyone who is fit has a chance of playing.
Powell will have to balance the need to win with keeping his key players fresh for next Tuesday’s crucial game at Doncaster.
Ben Alnwick missed the game at Middlesbrough after being taken ill on Saturday morning. His replacement, Yohann Thuram-Ulien, is ineligible for this match but Alnwick is expected to be fit enough to return.
Richard Wood took a knock near the end of the match on Saturday and may be rested. Michael Morrison would probably have been earmarked for a rest but Powell may be forced to start him. Lawrie Wilson will probably continue at right-back, with Cedric Evina coming in for the suspended Rhoys Wiggins on the left.
Danny Green and Jordan Cook will contest the berth on the wide right of midfield, with Callum Harriott continuing on the left. Bradley Pritchard could partner Dale Stephens in the engine room.
Simon Church and Joe Pigott are the likely front runners and Marvin Sordell may be fit enough to make a surprise return to the bench.
Charlton could field this team:
Alnwick; Wilson, Morrison, Dervite, Evina; Cook, Pritchard, Stephens, Harriott; Pigott, Church.
Subs: Phillips, Wood, Green, Cousins, Jackson, Kermorgant, Sordell.
The referee will be David Coote from Nottinghamshire.
The Addicks had to dig deep to claw back a two goal deficit a week ago but they will expect to get through this time.
