Oxford United 1-1 Charlton Athletic

Charlton had to be satisfied with a point at Oxford on Tuesday evening. After taking an early lead through Tariqe Fosu, Karl Robinson will feel his team should have had the game sewn up by half-time.

Instead Christian R‎ibeiro levelled for the home side.

Robinson made two changes to the team that beat Doncaster with‎ Naby Sarr coming in for Ezri Konsa, and Ben Reeves replacing Billy Clarke. Konsa and Clarke dropped to the bench.

Sarr had a fine game, but Reeves was played out of position and struggled to make an impact.

He started on the right of the advanced midfield trio, with Ricky Holmes in the middle, and Fosu on the left.

Sarr went close with an early header, Holmes narrowly failed to connect with a driven Magennis cross, and Fosu tried his luck from range, before the in form midfielder broke the deadlock after 17 minutes.

Sloppy play by the Oxford defence allowed Fosu to get to the ball before Simon Eastwood. Fosu danced round the keeper to fire the ball home.

Fosu turned provider shortly after, but Holmes put his shot over the bar.

The hosts drew level against the run of play after 35 minutes. A cross from the right was headed out by Chris Solly, but fell invitingly for Ribeiro.

He shot across Ben Amos and into the far corner from 15 yards.

Oxford were much more in the game after that, and Jake Forster-Caskey had to head an effort from‎ Ricardinho off the line early in the second half.

Wes Thomas and Jon Obika had good chances for Oxford, and substitutes Billy Clarke and Karlan Ahearne-Grant went close for the Addicks.

It was a good point against difficult opponents, but it could have been so much more. Charlton remain fifth in the table.
