Tristan Ovenden was back in action as the British Rallycross Championship headed to its spiritual home of Lydden Hill and home track for Ovenden too. MSA British Rallycross Championship Round 6 2016. Lydden Hill

Ovenden headed into his home event with realistic goals, simply to bring the car home and score championship points and build on his lead in the race to this year’s title.

A tall order when every other Super 1600 car is more powerful than the Kent mans nearly standard car.

Super 1600 was amalgamated with the more powerful Super National class. Despite this Ovenden finished in 6th overall position after the qualifying rounds and was the fastest Super 1600 driver.

However, in a bizarre turn of events the entire rest of the field for one reason or another fell by the way due to mechanical issues, handing Ovenden with the event win and extending his lead at the top of the championship standings.MSA British Rallycross Championship Round 6 2016. Lydden Hill

With two rounds still to run consistency is most definitely the name of the game and the championship title is still very much a possibility.
Round 7 of the championship now returns for its second visit to Pembrey in Wales held on the 25th September.

Speaking after the weekend, Tristan, said: “I’m a bit speechless! I had never thought at this point of the season I would in contention, People forget that to win championships you need to be consistent.

“We may be down on power with the rest of the grid, but we are showing that reliability is just as important.  As always thanks to my supporters and sponsors who I hope are enjoying this season as much as I am!”
