One final push for McKimm
One final push for McKimm

After a truly titanic struggle with Ramsgate, Cray Valley PM are just ninety minutes away from securing the Isthmian South East title in a fight that has gone right to the wire.

With Ramsgate at home to play-off bound Three Bridges on Saturday, Steve McKimm leads his side to face a Horndean side who have secured a second season at this level.

The Millers travel having enjoyed an incredible season and having dropped incredible just TWO points out of a possible fifty-four on their travels know that one more solitary point will see them crowned Champions.

“It’s our final game of the season and the boys have done extremely well!” McKimm said speaking with KSN this week.

“All we can do is to go out and put in a performance and give it our best to get the point that we need, we are going for all three but a minimum of one to secure the title. And if we can do that, it will be a great, great achievement for this Football Club.”

Up until they met the Rams at Southwood two weeks ago, McKimm’s side were “perfect” away from home.

“We let the one hundred percent away record slip at Ramsgate in the last minutes injury time,” McKimm told us.

“But we kicked on again by beating on Hythe on Tuesday and if we can go and beat Horndean, we keep the unbeaten away record and will be League Champions.”

“It was tough at Hythe midweek, forget about them having players missing, there were players there fighting for a new deal for next year with the new manager, but we had to play what’s put in front of you. The pitch was bobbly but for both sides and I’m pleased with the way that we adapted to it! Once we got the first goal it settled us down and we got into our stride which was good.”

“When you’re in a position like this, the last point is always the hardest to get isn’t it?” mused the Valley boss.

He went on, “I said after we drew at Ramsgate that we need seven from the last three games, we have got six from the first two of them it will not be made any easier playing at Horndean as they are a good side.

“I know that they have lost a few games recently, but Micky Birmingham has a good side that do things right and they will not stop until the final whistle blows and I am sure will give a good account of themselves as I am sure that some are playing for places next year.”

“I am not going to allude just how hard it is going to be at Horndean, the boys will need to be on their game and if they are, I have every faith in them as I have had all season that the job will be done.

“We have no egos in our changing room that think they are better than what they are; they all get their heads down and work really hard. They have been really good in training, just one final push and hopefully we can get over the line!”
