Oman Air Motorbase kept up their amazing record of scoring points in all of their races so far this season, with a win and a top ten in Holland last weekend.
The Avon Tyres British GT Championship moved to Zandvoort for round nine of the season and it was a first time out at the track for Ahmad Al Harthy and Michael Caine.
The duo took their second victory of the season in race one of the weekend having taken pole position, thanks to a fantastic qualifying session from Ahmad Al Harthy.
Speaking about being on pole position Ahmad, said: “Being on pole for the first time was incredible, it started raining just as I went out in qualifying so we knew we only had a short time to get a good lap. I was delighted with the time I did.
Ahmad made a great start from the rolling start and immediately pulled away at the front. Unfortunately, the safety car was soon out to negate his advantage and the pit-stop window was about to open when racing finally resumed. Caine took over and had to deal with fierce opposition on his way to a mighty victory.
Talking through the race, he added: “At the start, I got away really well and had to push very hard straight away to try and build a gap: we knew it was our chance if we managed that. I couldn’t believe it when the safety car came out though.
“The team did a fantastic job with the car. It was perfect in the race and ran faultlessly all the way through. The guys did a great job in the pit-stop too and Michael had a mega stint. We’re absolutely over the moon to have taken our second win in British GT.”
Round nine of the championship later on Sunday was always going to be tough as Caine started the Oman Air Motorbase car from 21st place on the grid after a difficult run in qualifying. However, Caine was instantly on the attack in the hour-long race and battled through to 11th place before his pit-stop on lap 15. A further 15-second pit-stop penalty due to their earlier win left Ahmad with a lot to do as he rejoined the race in 19th place.
However, with another big attack and a little good fortune, Ahmad was up to ninth place at the flag to maintain their 100% points’ scoring record and put the Motorbase car fourth in the points ahead of the season finale at Donington Park over the weekend of 5th and 6th October.
Despite only winning two races this season the team are just ten points the Championship leaders going into the season finale, there is everything still to play for in that race for the defending champion.
