Wrotham based Motorbase Performance will be back on track this weekend as the Avon Tyres British GT Championship is back on track.
The Oman Air Motorbase team will tackle the three hour race at the home of the British Grand Prix Silverstone.
The squad come into the race on the back of a strong showing in the two hour race in May at the Rockingham race circuit. Once again the team’s ace driving duo of Ahmad Al Harthy and Michael Cain will be back at the wheel.
It is the longest race of the season so far and that represents its own challenge for the team and their Porsche 911 GT3R, as well as this they will have to contend with one of the strongest fields ever to take to the grid with several top GT teams from Europe entering the race.
Once again the car will be carrying the 75kg of success ballast due to the grading systems that the organisers use, which is hampering the speed of the Oman Air Porsche.
Speaking ahead of the weekend Team Principal David Bartrum said: “The weight penalty we have to carry does not fit the crime and it is too much weight on the car.
“There is no right of appeal to the weight and there is no structure to the decision. It’s just an opinion and a number and there is no scientific basis to it. I really do love the GT racing and so that’s the difficult bit for me.
“It was a sterling effort from team Oman Air Motorbase at Rockingham and I’m very much looking forward to the next race at Silverstone.”
The team will be doing their best to make sure that they are challenging at the front end of the grid during qualifying and at the right end during the race.
The Silverstone race weekend will comprise of two one hour free practice sessions on Saturday morning, before qualifying in the afternoon. The three hour race then gets underway on Sunday lunchtime.
