It’s been confirmed that former Gillingham skipper Stuart O’Keefe has found a new home after being released from Priestfield at the end of last season.
O’Keefe has made the move to the Recreation Ground to join up with Tommy Widdrington and National League side Aldershot Town.
The 32 year old enjoyed a distinguished spell at Priestfield in a side that sometime struggled and was Neil Harris’ choice for Club Captain last season – in all he made over one hundred appearances in Gillingham blue and weighed in with four goals.
He came to Priestfield in June 2019 but after becoming a fixture in the side suffered a horrific broken leg in September the following year, but showed his true battling characteristics by recovering to start again the following February – less than six months after the break.
He had an injury ravaged season last term and it was little surprise to many that his release was announced last May.
On signing for the Shots, manager Widdrington told their official website, “We lost some experience in the middle of the park, and I feel that Stuart will certainly add that – his pedigree speaks for itself.”
“Alongside the additions we’ve already made this summer, I believe we’re becoming a very well-balanced group and we may not be finished yet!”
