Steve O’Boyle, manager of Phoenix Sports, was unable to hide his unhappiness following his team’s home defeat at the hands of Romford.
He could only say “Not good enough. We played well at Thamesmead on Boxing Day. We’re like chalk and cheese. Good one day and bad another and today was nowhere near good enough. They wanted it 100% more than us”.
Although Phoenix had plenty of chances, they only found the net. At the other end Chinedu McKenzie helped himself to a hat-trick and showed the hosts how to finish. However O’Boyle didn’t see that as the difference.
“They missed as many as we did. They had the chance at the end. They had a few chances in the first half. I could see the goal coming.” He did go on, however, to highlight some of the deficiencies up front.
“To be fair, how many times did we want to be offside today? There was no desire there. We were brain dead really going forward. Offside so many times and when we did get the opportunity to have the shot we just couldn’t put the ball in the net and that’s not good enough.”
Although they hit the bar and post, he considered them misses rather than bad luck. “They should’ve gone in. The end product wasn’t good enough and I’m very disappointed with today’s result.”
