Goals by youngsters David Kamara and Enoch Muwonge guided Welling United to an F.A. Trophy victory over a youthful Chesterfield side. After the match manager Danny Bloor reflected on the victory.
He said “The objective of today was to get into the next round and the objective was achieved. It was a very young Chesterfield side, and I thought that they were very resilient, and had a lot of energy, but we broke them down.
“It was very nice for us to keep a clean sheet, which we haven’t done many times this season, and in the record books it says Welling United two Chesterfield nil. We’re delighted, as a football club, to be in the fifth round of the F.A. Trophy.”
Scouting was difficult as it had been suggested that Chesterfield would bring a weakened side but Bloor had to be ready for whatever eleven they brought. “We’d heard rumours and one of the local press people had told people, but you never know.” he said “You just have to deal with what’s thrown upon you and it was a good victory.
“It was ironic that we’re talking about their youngsters and it was our two youngsters who did the business for us. Last Saturday we had a disappointing defeat here against Aveley and at half time (at three nil down) we brought on Enoch (Muwonge) and David (Kamara), and they started today.”
Bloor continued “They scored a goal each, and Enoch’s come away with the man of the match award. We’ve got a fantastic academy at Welling United, Garry Fiore and the boys do a great job there, and it’s nice to hear the fans singing ‘one of our own’.”
Welling are back in league action on Tuesday, and Bloor hopes to take some momentum from the win. “We won a game of football, there was a few quid (prize money) on offer today so it certainly can’t do you any harm.
“It would have been a lot worse going into the game at Farnborough on Tuesday on the back of a defeat. We had a few situations, one with Adam Roscrow, but lets give the boys who played today the plaudits.”
