In form Welling United travel to fifth placed Nuneaton Town hoping to extend their unbeaten run to five games.
Although the Wings are back in eleventh place, they are only five points behind Nuneaton having played two games fewer.
Earlier in the season, Nuneaton stunned Welling at Park View Road. The Wings had looked well in control when Ross Lafayette converted a 53rd minute penalty but James Armson equalised two minutes later. The game appeared to be petering out into a draw when substitute Freddie Lapado burst clear in stoppage time, and fired home to claim the full three points.
Last Saturday, Welling enjoyed a comfortable 1-0 win over Macclesfield Town courtesy of Blaine Hudson’s first goal in Wings’ colours. Jamie Turner made his first Skrill Premier appearance of the season for Welling in place of the injured Lee Butcher but only had one save to make as his defence kept the Silkmen at bay.
Manager Jamie Day will hope to have Butcher back, along with Lee Clarke, who has been out with a foot injury, and Kurtis Guthrie and Jack Obersteller, both absent with viruses. One squad member who won’t be available is Loick Pires, whose contract was cancelled by mutual consent this week.
Meanwhile, Nuneaton contested a 3-3 draw at Chester. The hosts were reduced to ten men after just eight minutes following the dismissal of Jason Jarrett but still lead three times before Andy Brown’s second goal in the 86th minute rescued a point.
Jake Gallagher’s outstanding form this season saw him rewarded with his first England C cap in Jordan this week where he was reunited with former team-mate Fraser Franks. He will hope to continue in the same vein as Welling look to pass the 50 point mark at Nuneaton’s Liberty Way.
