The Addicks named Kevin Nugent as the club’s assistant manager on Tuesday morning.
Nugent worked with Russell Slade at Leyton Orient and Slade will be delighted to have his sidekick alongside him again.
Nugent is 47-years-old and was working as a coach on Nathan Jones’ staff at Luton. Other former Charlton staff members on the Kenilworth Road payroll include Paul Hart and Jared Roberts-Smith.
Nugent had this to say about his appointment:
“This is a fantastic club to join and I’m really looking forward to getting started. I’ve left another fantastic club but when the opportunity arose to join Charlton, a club with such history and tradition, I wanted to grab it with both hands.
“I’ve worked with Russell before, and with the situation we find ourselves in at the moment, I know that there is no-one better to try and take us back into the Championship.”
Slade was equally fulsome in his praise of his assistant, and added these words:
“It was important that we got the right man and we have managed to prise Kevin out of Luton, and that is extremely pleasing.
“I have worked with Kevin before, he knows what is required, he knows this level really well and between Kevin and Simon Clark I think we have two really capable coaches that will only help to make us a better team.”
The first team are in action against Israeli opposition in Austria on Tuesday evening, while the development squad travel to Dulwicj Hamlet.
