The Addicks took another point after drawing 1-1 at the City Ground on Saturday. An early Callum Harriott strike was cancelled out by a thumping second half effort from Robert Tesche.
Bob Peeters named an unchanged team but Yoni Buyens and Joe Pigott replaced George Tucudean and Karlan Ahearne-Grant on the bench. First team physio, Erol Umut, was also back on duty.
It was a bright but cold afternoon by the Trent and Forest added a festive touch by having possibly the slimmest Santa ever seen in the main car park.
The sizeable number of travelling fans had some early cheer to warm them up and make their journey worthwhile.
Charlton started brightly and a good move saw Harriott give the visitors the lead in the tenth minute. A diagonal ball from Johann Gudmundsson picked out Jordan Cousins. Cousins passed to Harriott, who took a touch before rifling his shot past Karl Darlow from the edge of the area.
The Addicks suffered a blow after 20 minutes when skipper, Johnnie Jackson, had to be replaced by Lawrie Wilson after picking up a leg injury.
Cousins switched to the middle to partner Francis Coquelin, with Wilson slotting in on the left.
Charlton went close to doubling their advantage ten minutes before the break when a move involving Harriott and Coquelin ended with Igor Vetokele’s header bringing a fine save from Darlow.
The Addicks looked reasonably comfortable in the opening period and were good value for their lead.
It was a different story after the interval though, with Forest pushing their visitors back and it was no surprise when they levelled just before the hour mark.
Forest had a decent looking penalty appeal turned down by referee, Kevin Wright, but restored parity within a minute.
Half-time substitute Tesche let fly from distance and though Nick Pope got a hand to the ball, Tesche’s effort was unstoppable.
Three minutes later, Charlton could have restored their advantage when Vetokele played Harriott in but his effort was saved by Darlow with his legs. Wilson’s follow up went wide.
At the end of the day, a draw was a fair result though.
