Kent batsman Sam Northeast wants the side to come out firing on all cylinders when they take on Essex in the T20 tonight.Cricket - Yorkshire Bank 40 - Kent v Sussex - The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, Canterbury, England

Northeast will once again open the innings for the Spitfires alongside Rob Key after an impressive start to the season with the bat in the shorter form of the game.

With two defeats from their opening two T20 group games the Spitfires will be going all out for a win at Canterbury this evening and Northeast believes the side are more than capabale of turning over their near neighbours:

“We know we are getting a lot closer to playing the kind of cricket that will win us games. We’ve just got to take that belief with us out onto the field and deliver.”

“Essex are going to be no walkover and the with the addition of guys like Shau Tait they will be a force to be reckoned with, but we’ve got talent throughout our side and we know we can win if we play to our potential.”

Meanwhile, Northeast is pleased with his own form, but hopes that he can start delivering match winning performances for the Spitfires:

“I always had faith that some runs were going to come, it was a question of when.

“I have put in the hard work in training and hopefully this form continues but I want to be winning games of cricket for Kent. That’s the goal (so that) 60-odd is a little bit meaningless. Hopefully, we can move on to the next game and a match-winning knock.”

Once again Kent will keep faith with the likes of Sam Billings and Alex Blake, whilst Geraint Jones and Mark Davies will be kept on the sidelines, but for Northeast the youngsters deserve their chance:

“These guys have earned their place in the team with good performance for the 2nd XI. If Davo and Jonesy were playing, people would probably be saying we need more youth in the team. You can never win in that regard.”

Kent have named a 12 man squad for the game and are expected to name an unchanged side for the third game in a row.

Kent squad: Tredwell (c), Key, Northeast, Billings (w), Stevens, Blake, Harmison, Philander, Coles, Claydon, Riley, Cowdrey.
