Non League Weekend Preview
Non League Weekend Preview

This weekend sees some of the biggest games of the season so far as we approach the First Round proper of the FA Cup.

One of the biggest ties from the draw this year will be played on Sunday when Dartford welcome Swindon Town to Princes Park. The League Two outfit come into the match in good form having won four times in October whilst the Darts sit on top of the National League South by two points. 43 league places separate the two sides with the Robins in the League Two play-off places.

Staying in North Kent, the newly renames Kufflink Stadium also hosts a Cup tie on Saturday when Doncaster Rovers make the long trip from South Yorkshire to Ebbsfleet United. The hosts have only lost two of their nine home matches in the National League this season whilst ‘Donny’ have already lost five league games on the road. Ebbsfleet have failed to reach the Second Round since 2003 when they were knocked out by Notts County.

Bromley’s reward for beating Dover after a replay in the last round is a trip to Rochdale. The Spotland club are struggling in League One this season with 17 points from 18 matches, giving Bromley fans belief that their club could cause an upset in Greater Manchester this weekend.

The final FA Cup fixture this weekend comes from Gloucestershire where Maidstone United will travel to face League Two Cheltenham Town. Of their eight home games in the league this season, the hosts have won five of them, showing the Stones will need to bring their best to Whaddon Road on Saturday afternoon.

There is also plenty of league action from clubs all over the county this weekend. The highest level of these comes from St Albans when they host Welling United. Just two points separate the two sides in the National League South playoff places and a win could sent the wings as high as second.

In the Bostik Premier, Folkestone Invicta are another side looking towards the playoff places. They sit just three points behind the final spot knowing a win at home to Dorking Wanderers this weekend could propel them up to fourth.

Dorking come into their game by the channel just one point below Margate who face a tough challenge this weekend when Staines Town make the trip to Thanet. This game comes just seven days after the Gate knocked their opponents out of the FA Trophy with a comfortable 3-0 win at Wheatsheaf Park last week, and Steve Watt’s side will be looking for a repeat of that result.

The final game of Kent’s third tier matches this weekend will be Tonbridge Angels’ match up with Enfield Town. Both sides sit in reasonably comfortable mid table positions but a win for either team could kick start a run of form going into the winter months.

Finally, there is a full schedule of games in the Bostik South this weekend with the biggest game coming from Woodstock Park where second placed Sittingbourne host and all Kent clash with Phoenix Sports. It’s been an incredible season so far for the Brickies who continue to put the pressure on first placed Lewes who are part of the Friday night game this weekend.

Elsewhere Hythe Town travel to mid table Chipstead looking to extend their good run which has seen them only lose two of their last nine matches. Ramsgate, who have had a tough start to the season, are also on the road against play-off contenders Corinthian Casuals.

Ashford United, who have also had issues picking up points in the early months of the year, face a tough trip to third placed Greenwich Borough whilst Herne Bay are prepared for an early kick off in Guernsey and Faversham Town host Horsham at the Shepherd Neame Stadium.

The weekend’s football in the top four tiers of non-league is finished off with South Park vs Cray, VCD Athletic against Molesey and Thamesmead Town’s trip to Walton Casuals.
