Non League Weekend Preview
Non League Weekend Preview

It’s the weekend of dreams as two of our clubs are just 90 minutes from a possible trip to Old Trafford, Anfield or even Wembley in the Greatest Cup Competition in the World.

Maidstone United take centre stage on Saturday – even welcoming the Football Focus team to the Gallagher – when they welcome League Two Oldham Athletic to the County Town as they bid for a place in third round of the competition for the first time since reforming, and the first time since 1988, whilst on Sunday, Gillingham will (along with seven other ties) form part of BBC1’s “Final Score Live” programme in their tie with Slough Town from 2:00pm.  For the record, the third round draw is on BBC1 on Monday evening.

In the National League, Dover Athletic look to close the gap at the bottom with their third win in a week away to Andy Hessenthaler’s old side – form team Eastleigh, whilst Ebbsfleet United head for Aldershot as Garry Hill’s men look to make it seven unbeaten and complete their first League double of the season.  Bromley have no game.

In National League South, Welling United welcome Hungerford Town to Park View Road whilst Dartford have the day off as opponents Woking are still in the FA Cup.

In the National League, Tonbridge Angels whose form has slipped recently and Steve McKimm will know his side will have to be at their best to win at leaders Dorking Wanderers;  and it’s 16th v 17th and 13th v 14th as Folkestone Invicta welcome Merstham to Cheriton Road and Margate head for Potters Bar Town.

In the South East Division, leaders Cray Wanderers have the day off, and third placed Hythe Town face the longest day of all as they head for their away game with Guernsey.  Fourth placed Phoenix Sports welcome Tommy Warrilow and his new Ashford United side who are ninth and have won their last four.

There’s a Kent derby as VCD Athletic head for Woodstock Park to face a Sittingbourne side who have slipped to 13th after losing their last four – be warned there is a pitch inspection planned for 10.30.  There’s another Kent derby at Southwood where Ramsgate host Sevenoaks Town whilst Phil Miles and Danny Chapman come together in the Faversham dugout for the first time as they travel to face Whyteleafe.

Five SCEFL sides are involved in the last 64 for the Buildbase FA Vase on Saturday, Bearsted welcome Steyning Town Community as their record breaking run continues, Canterbury City play Southall at Salters Lane, Erith Town welcome Windsor, and in our “tie of the round” Sheppey United play Cray Valley (Paper Mills) just two weeks after Kevin Watson’s side were conclusive 3-1 winners in a League encounter.

Back in the League, leaders Fisher come to the Medway Towns for an intriguing contest at Lordswood; third placed Corinthian also head for Medway and a meeting with Chatham Town who have slipped to seventh after a run of Cup fixtures, whilst at the other its 19th vs 18th as Rusthall welcome Hollands and Blair.
