Non League Weekend Preview

There is a full set of fixtures for Kent’s sides this weekend with plenty of vital points up for grabs.

The race for the play-off places in the National League is heating up but, when it comes to our local teams, it is Dover Athletic who are leading the way. Chris Kinnear’s side currently occupy the final play-off place and will be looking to improve their standing this weekend when they welcome Guiseley to Crabble.

Just one place and one point below Dover are Bromley. After scoring eight goals in their last two games the Ravens will be looking to build on impressive recent run of form when they host Halifax.

The final tier one game in the county this weekend comes from Stonebridge Road where Daryl McMahon’s Ebbsfleet United side face Boreham Wood. The Fleet have only won once since Boxing Day so they’ll be hoping to return to winning ways on Saturday.

There is one more step one game involving a Kent side this weekend and this is Maidstone United’s trip north to face Gateshead. Just two points separate the teams in the middle of the National League table and three points could put Jay Saunders’ side into 12th in the table.

In the second tier of non league it’s a big weekend for Dartford. They currently sit top of the National League South with the highest goal difference in the league and welcome bottom club Whitehawk to Princes Park on Saturday. The Sussex club are however the league’s in form side, having not lost in the third tier in 2018.

Further down the table, Welling United sit four points outside the play-off positions. The Wings will be looking to keep up the pressure on the top seven places when they host Braintree Town on Saturday afternoon.

Two of the county’s coastal sides are also looking for promotion via the play-offs in the Bostik Premier this season. Margate are looking to return to the National League South at the first time of asking. This weekend the Thanet side make the trip to Harrow Borough as their play-off push goes on.

If the Gate win this weekend they may be able to overtake Folkestone Invicta who come into the weekend in third place. Neil Cugley’s side are on the road at Hendon this weekend as they look to keep behind Dulwich and Billericay.

Tonbridge Angels’ season is beginning to fade into mid table obscurity and they’ll be looking to ensure that doesn’t happen on Saturday when they host bottom side Burgess Hill Town.

Ashford United’s trip to Guernsey is the early kick off in the Bostik South this weekend as they look to remove themselves from the relegation battle back down to the Southern Counties East league.

Elsewhere, the game of the day in the fourth tier comes from the Safety Net Stadium where Herne Bay welcome title challengers Cray Wanderers.

Elsewhere VCD Athletic and Faversham Town are on the road this weekend to play Chipstead and Corinthian Casuals whilst Sittingbourne host Horsham and Ramsgate welcome fellow Kent side Thamesmead Town to Thanet.

Hythe Town are also back in action following their incredible midweek comeback against Ashford. They host South Park whilst Phoenix Sports host Carshalton.
