Nine goals in two games for Invicta

Folkestone Invicta completed their run up to the start of the season with a comfortable 4-0 win over Bostik South East newcomers Ashford United, scoring twice in each half against Gary Alexander’s new look side at The Homelands.

A smartly taken goal by Ronnie Dolan within seconds of the start put them on their way with Alfie Paxman grabbing his first for the club before the break.

Trialist Luis Medina scored for the second time in as many games and much-admired young Sitttingbourne striker Kane Rowland marked his first appearance in a Folkestone shirt with the fourth goal to complete both a very satisfactory win and the Fullicks Stadium side’s warm up towards the Bostik Premier Division kick-off against Enfield Town next weekend.

And that’s three wins, three draws and three losses for Neil Cugley’s side, with the 5-0 home defeat against a virtual 20-man Maidstone United squad the only result that could be called in any way embarrassing – and that a combination of circumstances that would have challenged any club from Invicta’s level against the standard of opposition they their manager had lined up for them.

Folkestone fielded a starting eleven that included two youth team players being given their ‘first team debuts’ with several members of what is looking Cugley’s most likely starting line-up either away or rested on this occasion.

The manager clearly has one or two decisions to make over who and how many of the new faces he can keep while staying within his wage budget.

Invicta: Roberts (Shaw); Aboagye, Newman, Davies (Jordan), Evans (Baker); Ter Horst (Yusuff 45), Dolan, Draycott, Rowland, Paxman (Medina), Everitt
