A multi-round four team tournament [4TT] will be giving the southern-based clubs in the National League an ‘awesome foursome’ challenge to contest in the 2019 Speedway season.
And it’s all thanks to Silver Ski Holidays Limited – leading the way for fully-catered chalet-based ski-ing & snow boarding holidays in the French Alps for over 34 years.
The competition will see the four teams from the southern half of the NL, the Kent TouchTec Kings, Isle of Wight Warriors, Mildenhall Fen Tigers and the newly re-branded Plymouth Gladiators compete in a four meeting round-robin series, each staging a round of 4TT action.
The series will begin over two evenings in late July at the Isle of Wight’s home in Ryde and then move way out west for a second leg in the Gladiators’ arena in the naval city of Plymouth. The action then moves in the opening weekend of August to the Fenland home of National Trophy holders, Mildenhall before the final denouncement at Kent’s Central Park Stadium.
The newly-appointed for 2019 NL coordinator Jason Pipe has warmly welcomed the return of a genuine multi-round 4TT competition onto the national Speedway fixture list,
“I’m very happy to be seeing the four clubs of Kent, Isle of Wight, Mildenhall & Plymouth holding these four team tournament meetings.
Personally, I myself used to be a big supporter of the Fours qualifying rounds we used to have in the old National League years ago,. I’m going to look closely at how well these meetings are supported, which may give me an idea to think about when we go into the 2020 season.”
Pipe sees this return to a much loved and formerly staple format, as perhaps a blueprint for a competition which could even move to encompass the whole third tier in future campaigns,
“If these meetings are well attended, maybe we could look at bringing the fours qualifying rounds back in the NL from 2020? I’m sure many of the clubs in this league would welcome an extra home meeting and then look at maybe having a Fours Final big event with the top four teams over more heats and the riders getting more races on the day of the final, which may make it more appealing to the riders themselves.”
And the part played by the Kent TouchTec Kings’ veteran co-promoter Len Silver (who celebrated his 87th. birthday, as is traditional skiing himself on the slopes as mine host on one of the SilverSki resorts this week) is recognised by Pipe,
“It’s great for all four clubs for Silver Ski Holidays to be on board sponsoring and helping each club out in this tournament. . It’s a fantastic gesture from Len Silver of Silver Ski by not only sponsoring this four day event but also for coming up with the idea in the first place.”
Silver Ski pride themselves on ‘ski-in/ski-out’ locations for their holiday properties and there’s no doubt that the excitement will be in the house for the four days of out and out action in the 2019 Silver Ski Fours!
