League One has more annual change than any division in senior English football. Seven of the twenty-three sides a club will play change every season.
The new faces in League One for the 2018/19 season will be Accrington, Barnsley, Burton, Luton, Sunderland, Wycombe, plus one of Coventry, Exeter and Notts County.
There are some old foes on that list, but regular travellers will experience visits to Accrington’s Wham Stadium, and the Pirelli Stadium in Burton for the first time.
Additionally, the Addicks have not faced Sunderland since their Premier League days.
The Wham Stadium can accommodate 1,800 visiting fans on an open terrace behind one of the goals. Charlton supporters will be hoping for a dry day, and preferably not in the depths of winter or in midweek for the Addicks’ visit.
Away fans may also be given a small number of seats in the corner of a stand, adjacent to the away end.
Burton’s Pirelli Stadium is a modern facility, but again, the majority of away fans are housed on a terrace behind the goal.
The capacity is 1,400, though the Brewers also allocate visitors 400 seats in the main stand.
Sunderland’s Stadium of Light will be a new ground for some, and is possibly the biggest stadium to host third tier football in the modern era, with a capacity of nearly 50,000. The ground has hosted England international matches.
Away followers are allocated 3,000 tickets in the upper tier of a stand behind one of the goals. Sunderland will be one of the longest trips for Charlton fans, so it will be another game they would prefer to see played on a Saturday.
Though the domestic season in England does not finish until the end of the month, the fixtures for the 2018/19 campaign will be published in less than five weeks time.
Fans can then begin to plan their journeys in earnest.
