The British under 19 Speedway Championship is to be staged at Kent Speedway’s Central Park Stadium home in Sittingbourne on Monday September 15th.
The meeting will involve the 16 top riders at this age range competing for the highly prestigious national championship (a crown won previously by, among others, the current World Champion, Tai Woffinden) in a 20 heat meeting.
With no fixture clashes affecting availability, a top class field is certain to be in action at what is the most important championship to be held in the county for many decades.
In order to accommodate the extra races required in such a major championship event, Swale Council members on the local authority’s Planning Committee have granted special dispensation for the extra heats and for a relaxing by one hour of the normal curfew.
As a result the start time for this event (sponsored by Buckmore Park Karting, who’ll be providing magnificent trophies for the championship top three) will be at the later than normal time of 7pm; with the curfew now 9.30pm.
Roger Cearns, stadium owner and co-promoter of Kent Speedway, said: “I am delighted at our local councillors’decision to allow this meeting to go ahead issue and my thanks go to them. This is the very first major championship to be granted to our venue which I am sure is worthy of the event.
“I am expecting the people of Kent, who have already shown their keen interest in Speedway, to turn out in big numbers to enjoy what promises to be a great evening’s entertainment”
The field will be announced in the next few days – but likely front-runners for the crown in this, its fourth staging as the Under 19s, are Lakeside Hammers’ rising star Adam Ellis, reigning Under 21s national champ, Josh Bates and the trio from current National League leaders, Max Clegg, Danny Phillips and three times GB Youth champion, Nathan Greaves.
