Nevitt frustrated not to be scoring goals

Striker Elliott Nevitt is frustrated at not finding the net enough for Gillingham this season.

With leaders Walsall visiting MEMS Priestfield this week, Nevitt knows that breaking his own drought at the weekend could all but dispel those relegation threats completely as well as throwing a massive spanner in the race for the play-offs at the top the table!

“Saturday will be a good game, I feel that the last game we played against them a few weeks ago we performed well and gave it a good go, which was nice,” Nevitt told us.

“I think it really was the start of us being more together and working harder together and since then I feel that we have been doing that really well and it will be good to play them here at Priestfield.”

“Apart from Barrow and Newport, I think we’ve been in every game since the Gaffer came in and that’s really all we want.

“No matter what is we all work hard and we all put it in, it might look different to the fans, but as players that is the absolute minimum that we have to put in, work hard and try to get the results which will improve the quality and hopefully if that does improve.”

“We could have won at Walsall and we’re looking forward to playing Saturday. We know it is likely to be a different team this week we face – it’s going to be a tough test; they are a good team as they wouldn’t be where they are if they weren’t and even without their internationals, it is going to be a very tough game, but I know that we will be ready.

“The lads feel good, we just know that we could still be better; we are happy with the wins obviously and the late goal at Accrington last week, but we know that we can be a lot better, and we need to keep doing it!”

“I feel that now as a team we are creating more and creating chances and as a forward that’s what you want.”

Nevitt hasn’t had the best of luck in front of goal especially recently as the frame of the goal and last-ditch defending has constantly denied the Gills striker. “It’s tough,” the striker admitted.

“I came here and really wanted to start so well, continuing what I did last year, but it hasn’t been the same! I started off with a bad injury and then came back only to get another injury, but I have been in the team for a while now, but it just hasn’t happened for me.

“All I can do is keep going as I know how quick they went in before, so I know it will click! At least I am having the chances to get the goals which is what you wish for, and I know that if I keep getting the chances that I will be starting to get the goals!”

“It has been tough to deal with but I’m tough on myself as well because I know what I am capable of. I know that when you score a goal, it’s the best feeling in the world and I haven’t had that much this season after having it a lot last year.

“That’s all I want to do, come and start, start well and get the team flying but that didn’t happen, but I know it will come as I believe in myself!”

“The fans have been there for us, I know how they feel as I am a fan myself of the team and I know what it’s like when you’re not doing well, it’s so frustrating as all you want to do is be winning and celebrating wins, and I know how hard it is when we don’t!

“They are always there and have stuck with us and all the players appreciate it so much!”
