Fresh off of a double podium finish at the previous round, Kent racing driver Alex Nevill arrives at his home circuit of Brands Hatch this weekend hungry for further success in his Britcar Trophy campaign.
At the previous round at Snetterton three weeks ago, Alex was able to rebound from a disappointing opening round to claim a brace of third place finishes in the two 50 minute contests.
This allowed the number 12 Dragon Sport Renault Clio Cup car to climb up to third place in the Clio Cup class standings ahead of the championship’s biggest race of the year.
The legendary Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit is the host venue for rounds five and six of the championship. Although the longer version of the track is rarely used due to noise restrictions, it’s widely renowned as one of the best circuits in the world.
The Grand Prix loop provides drivers with a fast, narrow and undulating blast through the Kent countryside.
It’s a daunting challenge that’s perhaps enhanced by the expectations of a large crowd for the circuit’s biggest international event of the year, as the Britcar Trophy serves as a support race to the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS.
The European sports car championship boasts a grid full of famous brands including Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini, as well as famous drivers including Moto GP legend Valentino Rossi.
Despite residing about 15 miles from the track, this weekend will mark Alex’s first races at the former home of the British Grand Prix in five years, and his first laps in anger on the Grand Prix version of the track.
With that in mind he’s keen to soak up the experience, he said: “It’s been a long time since I’ve raced on home ground and honestly there were times in the years I spent out of competition when I wondered if I’d ever get the chance to compete at Brands again at all.
“So with that in mind above all else I just want to give it my all and enjoy the experience. Being part of a big race meeting like this will add a real buzz to it, and to compete on the full Grand Prix circuit is a privilege for any driver.
“Naturally I’ve got a lot of friends and family in attendance as well as my sponsor Jackaman Insurance and I’m keen to put on a good show for them!”
Alex will be in action for race one on Saturday at 16:55 pm and on Sunday at 14:20 pm for race two. Tickets will be available to purchase on the gate.
