After a lengthy summer break The Rowe Britcar Trophy championship returns to action this weekend at the Snetterton 300 Circuit, and Kent based racing driver Alex Nevill is feeling prepared for the challenge.
Alex returned to competition in the last round of the championship, a two hour endurance race on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.
Paired with Travis Coyne in the number 92 Dragon Sport Renault Clio Cup car the duo qualified second in class and led early before technical issues hampered their efforts, with the car eventually stopping an agonising half a lap from home after two hours of competition.
Although they had still covered enough distance to be classified fourth in class. The result means they’re sat third in the Clio class championship standings, with four races over two rounds left in the season.
Since then a three month break in the Britcar Trophy schedule has provided Alex with a great opportunity to prepare and test at Snetterton. Preparations included a cameo appearance in the Snetterton Saloons series last month at the Norfolk venue, where Alex and Travis lead for a large portion of the race before eventually having to settle for second place.
Their first podium together has given Alex a confidence boost ahead of the penultimate round of their championship campaign this weekend.
“Silverstone was a challenging weekend for me, I hadn’t driven a race car in 7 months and I’d never competed on the Grand Prix circuit. In comparison Snetterton is a circuit I’m very familiar with, and the testing & racing we’ve done there in the last couple of months leaves me feeling prepared and confident for the weekend” Alex enthused.
“It’ll be a tough fight for us this weekend, I think the Clio class is one of the most competitive in the championship and our opposition are very good. But I’m feeling up for the fight!”
Both of Sunday’s races will be livestreamed on the British Automobile Racing Club’s YouTube channel, scheduled to start at 12:30 & 15:55 respectively.
